Motocross reduced to its least forgiving form. There are no checkpoints, no health bar and no partial credit: tip the rider too far in either direction or land badly and the course is over from the start. Everything therefore rests on throttle control and weight shifting, both of which are analogue in feel even though the inputs are simple. The blocky presentation keeps the terrain readable, which matters a great deal when the difference between clearing a jump and ending a run is a few degrees of pitch. Courses escalate steadily and are short enough that repetition is the intended way to learn them. What makes the harshness bearable is the length of the courses. A run lasts under a minute, a restart is instant, and each attempt gives you a clear picture of the exact jump that ended the last one. The game is asking you to memorise a short sequence and execute it cleanly, which is a fair request even when the tolerance for error is close to zero.

How to play Blocky Xtreme

  1. Lean back on the climb and forward before the landing. Weight is the control that actually matters.
  2. Release the throttle at the top of a ramp rather than powering over it.
  3. Land with both wheels level, or as close to it as the terrain allows.
  4. Approach unfamiliar sections slowly. Speed can always be added once the layout is known.
  5. Restart immediately rather than trying to recover a compromised run.

Tips

  • Most crashes are caused by too much throttle rather than too little, especially on descents.
  • Short courses reward memorisation, so the second attempt should already be faster than the first.
  • If the rider keeps flipping backwards, you are holding power through the ramp instead of releasing on it.

Questions about Blocky Xtreme
