A car moving forward on a narrow platform suspended over nothing, and one button that decides which way it turns. Held, the car swings one direction; released, it swings the other. There is no accelerator and no brake, so the entire game is the rhythm of holding and releasing to keep a constantly turning vehicle on a road that keeps changing direction. It looks trivial for about ten seconds and then the corners start arriving in pairs. Everything about it — the eighties palette, the tyre noise, the immediate restart — is built to get you back into another attempt before you have finished being annoyed about the last one.

How to play Drift Boss

  1. Tap in short pulses rather than holding through a corner. The car turns continuously and a long hold overshoots.
  2. Look at the next corner rather than the car. By the time the car looks wrong it already is.
  3. Keep to the inside of a bend so that the correction has somewhere to go.
  4. Take the coins that sit on the line and leave anything that would need a detour.
  5. Restart straight away. The rhythm is the skill and it decays fast.

Tips

  • Double corners are where runs end. Recognising the second one before finishing the first is the whole late game.
  • Upgrades bought with coins smooth the handling slightly, but no upgrade replaces rhythm.
  • Playing with sound helps more than it should, because the tyre noise tells you how hard the car is turning.

Questions about Drift Boss

Is there really only one button?

Yes. Hold and release is the entire control scheme.

Can I speed up or slow down?

No, the car moves at its own pace and only the direction is yours.

What ends a run?

Leaving the platform, which is the only failure state.

What are the coins for?

Cars and small handling improvements, all optional.

Does it suit touch?

Perfectly. One press is the natural mobile control.

Why does the platform keep narrowing?

It tightens as the run continues, which is how the game escalates without changing the controls. The turn radius stays the same while the room for error shrinks.
