A first-person shooter built in the older style, where levels are places to be explored rather than corridors to be advanced along. Five corrupted worlds hold locked doors, hidden switches and side routes that reward searching, and the progression comes as much from finding a key or a secret room as from clearing the enemies in front of you. Thirty-eight weapons and eight spells accumulate across a run, which gives the combat a genuine loadout question rather than an upgrade path. Bosses punctuate the worlds and generally need a plan rather than a bigger gun, which is the part that separates it from a straightforward corridor shooter. The progression is generous without being soft. Health, ammunition and spell charges are all found rather than granted, so a player who searches carefully arrives at a boss considerably better equipped than one who ran the critical path, and the game is content to let both attempt it. That is an older way of building a shooter and it still produces the kind of level you remember the shape of afterwards.

How to play Hexbound
- Explore before advancing. Secrets carry the resources the next fight assumes you found.
- Match the weapon to the enemy rather than carrying a favourite. The arsenal is large for a reason.
- Use spells on crowds and save ammunition for single hard targets.
- Map the level mentally. Locked doors come back around and remembering where they were saves whole loops.
- Fight bosses from cover and movement rather than from range alone.
Tips
- The retro design means enemies telegraph their attacks. Learning those tells is worth more than any weapon.
- Ammunition is distributed to reward searching, so a run that skips secrets will run dry.
- If a boss keeps winning, change the loadout rather than repeating the same approach more carefully.
