A ship, a list of small jobs and at least one person on board who is not doing them. The crew win by finishing the tasks or by voting out the impostors; the impostors win by thinning the crew without being noticed. Almost nothing about the game is mechanical. The mechanics exist to generate the arguments, and the arguments are the game. The tasks matter less than they appear to. They are a reason to be somewhere, an alibi to build and a clock the impostors are racing against, but no crew member has ever won an argument by pointing at a completed wiring puzzle. What wins is being able to say where you were and having somebody remember seeing you there.

How to play Among Us

  1. Do your tasks visibly. Being seen working is the cheapest alibi available and it costs nothing.
  2. Remember routes, not just rooms. In a meeting, who came from where is worth more than who was standing near what.
  3. Watch the vents. Appearing somewhere without a plausible path is the most reliable tell in the game.
  4. Say what you saw plainly and early. A vague accusation is worse than none, because it burns the meeting.
  5. As impostor, build a task pattern before doing anything. Suspicion falls on the player nobody can place.

Tips

  • Silence reads as guilt whether it is or not. Contribute to every meeting even when you have nothing.
  • A crew member who follows one person all game is either very useful or the next victim, and often both.
  • Sabotage is a tool for splitting the group, not just for winning. Use it to create the isolation you need.

Questions about Among Us

How many impostors are there?

It varies by lobby setting, which changes the game considerably: one impostor is a hunt, two is a conspiracy.

Can I play with strangers?

Yes, public lobbies exist alongside private ones for people you know.

What happens when I am voted out?

You keep watching, and in most settings you can finish tasks as a ghost, which still helps the crew.

Is there a way to prove innocence?

Only circumstantially. Visual tasks and consistent movement are as close as the game gets.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The controls are simple enough that touch loses very little.
