Arcade basketball with more of the sport left in than most games of this shape keep. You can shoot from distance, drive and dunk, block, steal and fake, and the difference between those options actually matters — a dunk attempt against a defender who is set will be blocked, and a jump shot taken while moving will miss. That gives the matches a rhythm closer to real one-on-one than to a physics toy. The two-player mode on a shared keyboard is where it has lived for years, and the reason is that the move set is deep enough to be read. You learn that your opponent always goes left, they learn that you always shoot on the second dribble, and the match becomes a conversation.
