Rocket shedding a stage above a planet with a colony below

The sequel keeps the launch intact and builds an economy around it. The flight itself is still a series of well-timed taps to shed spent stages, with each release either preserving the climb or wasting it. What is new is where the money goes: colonies established on the planets you reach generate income whether you are launching or not, which means a session is no longer a chain of flights but a decision about when to fly and when to expand. It sits between an arcade game and an idle one, and it manages the transition better than most attempts at that combination.

How to play Lift Off 2

  1. Stage on the drop in acceleration, not on a count. The right moment moves as the rocket changes.
  2. Establish the first colony as early as you can afford it. Passive income compounds and the earlier it starts, the better.
  3. Alternate between flying and expanding rather than doing either exclusively.
  4. Upgrade the final stage before the boosters. It determines how far a flight actually reaches.
  5. Return after a break. Colonies accumulate while the tab is closed and the balance is often worth a new upgrade.

Tips

  • A perfect launch with a poor fleet still loses to an average launch with a good one, so do not over-practise the taps.
  • Colonies vary in yield, so read what a planet produces before committing the money to settle it.
  • Spend down to nearly nothing before each flight. Idle currency earns nothing sitting in the bank.

Questions about Lift Off 2

Is it the same as the first game?

The launch mechanic is, but the progression around it is now colony-based and partly idle.

Does it earn while I am away?

Yes, colonies produce income between sessions.

Is the timing hard?

It is forgiving at first and gets tighter as the rockets become more complex.

Do I need the first game?

No, it stands on its own.

Does it play on a phone?

Yes, everything is tapping.

Can I ignore the colonies and just launch?

You can, but progress slows considerably. The colonies are what fund the upgrades that make longer flights possible.
