Half timing game, half management game. The launch itself is a short physical problem: the rocket climbs, the fuel sections empty, and you release each one at the moment it stops helping and starts weighing you down. Release too early and you throw away fuel you had paid for; too late and the dead mass eats the altitude you were building. Between launches the other half takes over. Altitude turns into money, money turns into better stages, crew and capacity, and the target is a permanent presence rather than a single good flight. The loop is unusually satisfying because a better rocket does not remove the timing problem, it just moves it higher.

How to play Lift Off
- Watch the thrust rather than the clock. A stage should go when it stops accelerating you, and that moment moves as the rocket improves.
- Take the cheap early upgrades first. Compounding matters more than any single expensive part.
- Balance crew capacity against weight. Carrying more people pays more and climbs less, and the right ratio changes with every upgrade.
- Bank a reserve before a big purchase. A launch that fails after an expensive upgrade sets you back further than it looks.
- Repeat a good configuration several times rather than immediately reinvesting. Consistency funds the next tier faster than gambling does.
Tips
- The last stage is the one that decides the altitude, so upgrade it before the boosters underneath it.
- If launches keep peaking at the same height, the problem is usually mass rather than thrust.
- Read the mission target before launching. Flying higher than needed is wasted fuel, not a bonus.
Questions about Lift Off
Is it an arcade game or a management game?
Both, in alternating turns. The launch is a timing challenge and everything between launches is planning.
What does staging actually do?
It drops an empty section so the remaining rocket is lighter. The timing of each drop is what determines the altitude.
What is the long-term goal?
Building a permanent station and moving a large number of people, which takes many launches and a lot of upgrading.
Can a launch be failed outright?
A poor launch wastes the flight rather than ending the game, so progress is slowed rather than lost.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Staging is one tap and the management screens are all touch friendly.
