Smash Karts

A kart game with no finish line. Several players share a small arena, weapon crates respawn at fixed points, and the score is eliminations — so driving quickly is only useful insofar as it gets you to a crate before somebody else, and the actual skill is positioning. That shifts the priorities in a way karting players take a while to accept. The fast line around an arena is also the predictable one, and a player who sits near a crate spawn with a loaded weapon beats a player who is driving well. Weapons differ meaningfully — some are direct, some area, some defensive — and knowing which crate locations tend to produce what is worth more than reaction speed. Matches last a few minutes, lobbies fill instantly with real players, and respawns are quick enough that being eliminated costs very little. The presentation is bright and readable, it runs well on weak hardware, and it plays with four inputs on a keyboard or on-screen controls. One of the better pick-up-and-play multiplayer games in a browser, mostly because nothing stands between opening it and being in a match.
