One square at a time, forever, across whatever the generator puts in front of you. Roads need gaps in traffic, rivers need logs moving at inconvenient speeds, railways need you to not be standing on them, and the whole thing is punctuated by an eagle that removes anyone who stops making progress. That last rule is what makes it a game rather than a patience test: you cannot simply wait for a perfect gap, because waiting is itself fatal. The reward is more than a hundred and fifty characters, unlocked with coins picked up along the way, most of which change the scenery rather than the difficulty.

How to play Crossy Road

  1. Keep moving forward. Standing still is punished directly, so a slightly risky hop beats a safe wait.
  2. Cross rivers by planning two logs ahead, since the one you are standing on will carry you out of position.
  3. Treat railways as binary. Either the track is clear or it is not, and there is no partial safety.
  4. Take coins that lie on your path and leave the rest. A character is never worth a run.
  5. Move sideways to line up a crossing rather than hopping forward into a bad gap.

Tips

  • The safest place on a road is immediately behind a vehicle that has just passed.
  • Logs drift, so aim for the middle of one rather than the end you can reach soonest.
  • Long runs come from rhythm rather than from caution. Find a pace and keep it.
