The entry in this series where the branching became genuinely ambitious. The first meaningful choice splits the game into distinct routes with different tones, different supporting characters and different endings — so a second run is not a variation but a different piece of content sharing a setting. The comedy still lives in the failures, which are animated with more care than anything else in the game and are plainly the reason to try the terrible options. But the structure underneath is the largest in the series, and completing all of the endings takes several sittings rather than one. Each individual run is a few minutes, the restart puts you straight back to the decision, and the whole thing is built on the assumption that you will explore rather than optimise — which is the correct assumption and unusual to design for honestly.

How to play Infiltrating the Airship

  1. Try the obviously bad options; they are the best-made content in the game.
  2. Note which first choice sent you down which route, because that is where the split happens.
  3. Play each route to its ending before exploring another.
  4. Restart immediately after a failure; it returns you to the decision.
  5. Come back across several sittings — there is more here than one run suggests.

Tips

  • The routes differ in tone as well as content, so one you dislike does not predict the others.
  • Some failures continue into whole sequences rather than ending, so let them run.
  • The hardest ending to find usually requires the least obvious early choice.
