Math Bros

An arithmetic game with an American football frame around it, and the frame does real work. Each play presents a calculation; answer it correctly and the drive advances, get it wrong and the possession ends — which means the pressure is cumulative in a way a plain quiz never manages, because a mistake on the fourth correct answer costs all four. The maths itself is quick mental arithmetic rather than anything deep, and the difficulty comes from the clock instead of from complexity. That makes it a genuinely useful drill: the skill being trained is speed and confidence with small sums, which is exactly what gets rusty, and the football context gives each answer a consequence that makes the practice stick better than a worksheet does. The two-player mode is where it is most fun, because a human opponent supplies the pressure better than a timer. Sessions are short, the presentation is bright and simple, and there is nothing in it that requires knowing anything about football. As something to put in front of a child who will not tolerate a quiz, it works; as a quick drill for an adult, it also works.
