Meme Puzzle

A jigsaw game using internet-familiar images, which is a smaller distinction than it sounds and a real one: recognising what the picture is supposed to be helps, so a puzzle of something you have seen a hundred times is easier to hold in your head than an abstract photograph. The rest is a competent jigsaw. Pieces snap when close, the board can be rearranged freely, and there is no timer and nothing to fail, which is the correct set of decisions for a format whose appeal is the absence of pressure. Difficulty comes from piece count, and the step from a twelve-piece picture to a fifty-piece one is a genuine change in how you approach it — the first is solved by looking, the second by sorting edges first. It works well on a touchscreen, where dragging pieces is more natural than with a mouse, and it works well as something to do with half your attention. Sessions are as long as the picture takes. There is nothing ambitious about it and nothing wrong with it, and for a few quiet minutes it does exactly what it is for.
