Traffic Rider

A motorbike game played from the rider's own view, which changes the experience more than a camera choice usually does. You cannot see around the vehicle in front, so overtaking is a decision made with incomplete information, and the sense of speed at the handlebars is considerably more uncomfortable than a chase camera would allow. That discomfort is the appeal. Overtaking closely earns bonuses, riding above a speed threshold earns more, and a bike has no bodywork to absorb a mistake — so the risk is felt rather than abstracted. Missions give structure: reach a distance, maintain a speed, overtake a number of vehicles, each of which pushes a different kind of risk-taking. The presentation is realistic in intent and the engine sound carries a lot of the experience, so it is worth playing with audio. Bikes unlock through mission earnings and differ in acceleration and top speed. Runs take a couple of minutes, it plays with four inputs or tilt on a phone, and it needs a moderately capable machine for a smooth frame rate.
