A card game played in real time against another person, with one resource that refills slowly and decides everything. Elixir is the whole game: every card costs some, it regenerates at a fixed rate, and the player who spends it on the right answer at the right moment wins. Spending first is usually a disadvantage, which makes the opening of a match a staring contest. The depth comes from that trade rather than from the cards themselves. A cheap card that neutralises an expensive one leaves you ahead on elixir and therefore ahead on the next exchange, so the good players are the ones counting what their opponent has spent rather than reading their own hand. Matches last three minutes, towers fall quickly once a push lands, and the format is short enough that a bad match costs nothing — which is the main reason it has been copied so widely.

How to play Clash Royale
- Let your opponent commit first where you can; answering costs less than leading.
- Count elixir. Knowing what they can afford is worth more than knowing what they hold.
- Answer expensive pushes with cheap counters and convert the difference into your own attack.
- Defend in the middle so your units can move to either tower afterwards.
- Keep one answer in hand rather than spending your whole rotation on a single push.
Tips
- A push launched when you are behind on elixir loses even if the cards are good.
- Placing a unit slightly back gives you time to react to what they play in response.
- The last minute doubles elixir, so hold a plan for it rather than running your deck dry early.
