The familiar sliding grid with the one change that alters everything: moves are finite. In the usual version a bad slide costs you nothing but a slightly worse board, and you can shuffle indefinitely while waiting for a useful tile. Here every direction you press is spent from a budget, which turns idle shuffling into the fastest way to lose. Two modes sit on top of that. The endless one is the classic chase for a bigger tile; the story mode sets specific targets within a move count and unfolds a small narrative as creatures evolve out of your merges. Both reward the same discipline, which is deciding what a move is for before making it.

How to play 2048 Rogue
- Choose a corner and keep your largest tile in it. Everything else is built around not disturbing that corner.
- Slide in only three directions while you can. The fourth is what breaks a tidy board, and with a move limit you cannot afford to repair it.
- Merge towards the corner rather than wherever a pair happens to sit. A merge that moves the wrong way costs two moves to undo.
- Count before you slide in story mode. A move spent on nothing is the difference between clearing a target and missing it.
- Plan two moves at a time. With a budget in play, the second move is what makes the first one worth spending.
Tips
- A full board is not a lost board, but a full board plus a wasted move usually is.
- In story mode, read the target first. Sometimes the goal is a particular tile rather than the highest possible score, and the strategies differ.
- The evolution chain is a progress bar as much as decoration. It tells you whether the run is going well before the score does.
Questions about 2048 Rogue
How is this different from the usual merging game?
Moves are limited, which removes shuffling as a tactic and turns every slide into a decision.
What are the two modes?
An endless chase for the highest tile, and a story mode with fixed objectives and move budgets.
What are the creatures for?
They evolve as you merge and they carry the story, so they double as a progress indicator.
Is there a leaderboard?
Yes, scores are compared globally, which is most of the reason to replay endless mode.
Does it work on a phone?
Very well. Swiping is the natural control for a sliding grid.
