A game that spends its first two minutes pretending to be a cheerful educational title from thirty years ago, then stops pretending. You are collecting seven notebooks from a schoolhouse, each one asks you some arithmetic, and the arithmetic becomes deliberately unanswerable — at which point the teacher starts moving, and moving faster with every question you get wrong. Underneath the joke is a genuinely tight chase game. The school is a maze, several of its inhabitants slow you down in different ways, and the items you find are the only counters to them. Because the teacher accelerates rather than teleporting, every run becomes a routing problem: which notebooks to take first, which corridors to avoid, and when to accept a wrong answer and start running instead of standing there trying to solve something with no solution.

How to play Baldi's Basics

  1. Answer the first notebook honestly and expect the rest to stop cooperating.
  2. Plan a route between notebooks rather than taking the nearest one each time.
  3. Learn what each inhabitant does; several are worse than the teacher in a narrow corridor.
  4. Save items for the corridors you must pass through, not the first time they would help.
  5. Keep stamina in reserve — running out while being chased is how runs end.

Tips

  • The teacher's speed is tied to wrong answers, so a run with two early mistakes is already a hard run.
  • Sound tells you distance more reliably than looking back does.
  • The exits matter: knowing where they are before you need one is worth more than any item.

Questions about Baldi's Basics

Is it an educational game?

It is a parody of one. The arithmetic stops being solvable on purpose.

What is the goal?

Collect seven notebooks and reach an exit.

Why does the teacher get faster?

Every wrong answer speeds them up, which is what turns the maths into pressure.

Are there other characters?

Yes, several, each obstructing you in a different way.

Does it need a keyboard?

Yes, movement and running both want one.

Does it need installing?

No, it runs in the browser.
