You are a hole in the ground and everything above you is potential mass. The ladder is straightforward — street furniture, then cars, then buildings, then rival holes — and the round is short enough that the opening thirty seconds decide most of it, because whoever finds the densest clutter first spends the rest of the time eating things nobody else can reach. What makes it competitive rather than passive is that holes can eat each other. A rival slightly larger than you is a threat you have to track, and one slightly smaller is the single fastest mass gain available. So the middle of a round is a judgement about whether to farm safely or hunt, and the end is usually a scramble as whoever is behind takes a risk. Matches are a couple of minutes and the whole thing fills instantly.

How to play Hole IO

Head for clutter at the start; small objects in quantity beat large ones spread out.
Avoid rivals your own size — a stalemate wastes the seconds you should be farming.
Move up a tier the moment something bigger becomes edible.
Eat a smaller rival whenever you can; it is the biggest single jump available.
Take the risk in the last ten seconds, because second place scores the same as fifth.

Tips

Parked rows of cars are the best value in the middle game.
Watch the leaderboard rather than the map; knowing who you can eat matters more than where they are.
The map edges are safer than the centre, which is where the largest hole hunts.
