A blank map, a spawn menu and a physics engine with no opinions about what you should be doing. There are no levels, no score and no failure state; there are ragdolls, melee weapons, firearms, barrels, explosives, vehicles and a set of maps to put them in. What people actually do with it varies wildly, which is the point: some build elaborate machines, some test how far a physics body will travel, and some simply want to see what happens when everything on the map is spawned at once. Because nothing is ever lost, the whole thing is closer to a toy than a game, and it rewards curiosity rather than skill.

How to play Melon Sandbox
- Start with two objects rather than twenty. The physics is easier to understand and more entertaining when you can see what is affecting what.
- Build before you break. A structure that took a minute to assemble is far more interesting to demolish than an empty map.
- Use the vehicles as delivery rather than transport. Most of the entertaining collisions involve something moving fast into something stationary.
- Reset the map when it becomes cluttered. Frame rate suffers and so does the experiment.
- Try the same setup twice. The engine is not perfectly deterministic and the differences are half the fun.
Tips
- Heavy objects dropped from height do more than explosives in most situations and cost the simulation far less.
- If the map starts stuttering, you have spawned more than the browser can solve. Clear and continue.
- Placing objects precisely is easier zoomed in, and the extra second is usually worth it.
Questions about Melon Sandbox
Is there an objective?
None whatsoever. It is a sandbox, and everything in it exists to be experimented with.
Can I lose or fail?
No. Nothing is scored and nothing is permanent.
What can I spawn?
Characters, melee weapons, firearms, explosives, vehicles and props, across several maps.
Will it run on a phone?
Yes, though heavy scenes are harder work for a mobile browser than a desktop one.
Does it save my creations?
The focus is on immediate experimentation rather than long-term building.
