A shooter whose central mechanic is that time only advances while you do. Standing still freezes bullets mid-air; moving, turning or firing lets them travel — so every encounter can be examined at leisure and then has to be executed as a single continuous sequence once you commit. That turns a first-person shooter into a puzzle game. You have no health, so a single bullet ends the attempt, and the solution to a room is a specific order of movements: step left to let that shot pass, take the pistol from the falling enemy, throw it at the one behind you, catch the rifle. The game is generous about letting you think and completely unforgiving about execution, which is an unusual and very effective combination. The minimalist presentation — white rooms, red enemies, black weapons — exists to make the puzzle legible, and it does. Levels take a few minutes with many attempts each, and the satisfaction of a solved room played back at full speed is the whole point. It needs a keyboard and mouse, runs on modest hardware, and is one of the most distinctive shooters anywhere.

How to play Superhot

  1. Stand still to plan; time only moves when you do.
  2. Look at where every bullet is going before taking a step.
  3. Throw an empty weapon at the nearest enemy to stagger them, then take theirs.
  4. Move in small increments so time advances in small increments.
  5. Restart freely; rooms are meant to take many attempts.

Tips

  • A single bullet ends the attempt, so the plan matters more than the aim.
  • Throwing a spent weapon is almost always better than holding it.
  • Small movements advance time in small amounts, which is the whole control over the encounter.
