White Horizon

A skiing game that opens without music and never raises its voice. The slope is endless, the obstacles are sparse, and the experience is built around the rhythm of turning rather than around avoiding things — which makes it closer to a meditative game than to an arcade one. The weather is the main system. Conditions shift as you descend, changing visibility and how the skis hold, and the correct response is to adjust the tempo of your turns rather than to react to individual hazards. A heavy snowfall section is not more dangerous because things appear suddenly; it is more dangerous because the rhythm that worked in clear conditions is now slightly wrong. That focus on rhythm over reflex is unusual and genuinely calming, and the long runs come from settling into it rather than from concentrating harder. Unlockable skiers change handling slightly, which gives the distance number a secondary purpose without adding clutter. Runs last a few minutes, which is longer than most endless games manage, and stopping is no loss. It plays with two inputs on a phone or keyboard, needs a moderately capable machine for the snowfall effects, and is worth playing with sound on once the silence breaks.
