A night shift in a building that has no doors to close. Everything you can do is a way of buying seconds: a torch down the corridor, a mask pulled over your head, a music box that has to be wound from a camera screen or it stops. The horror is administrative. You are never fighting anything; you are running out of time to check the three things that all need checking right now.

How to play Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

  1. Wind the music box first and often. It is the only threat with a timer running whether you look at it or not.
  2. Use the torch in short bursts down the corridor. A long look costs you the seconds the box needed.
  3. Put the mask on the instant something is in the office, not after you have identified it. Hesitation is the failure state here.
  4. Check the vents on either side between winds. They are the routes that arrive without warning.
  5. Build a loop and keep to it. Improvised checking always loses to a rhythm you can perform without thinking.

Tips

  • The mask does not work on everything. Learn which visitor needs the torch instead, because using the wrong tool costs the night.
  • If the box is nearly empty, wind it even when something is in the room. A stopped box ends the night faster than a mistake in the office.
  • The camera feed is a tool, not a lookout. Time spent watching it is time not spent surviving.

Questions about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Why are there no doors?

They were removed deliberately. The whole design replaces a barrier you can close with tasks you have to keep performing.

What does the music box do?

It keeps one particular threat asleep, and it only winds while its camera is open. Forgetting it is the most common way a night ends.

How long is one night?

From midnight to six in game time, which is a few minutes of real time that feel considerably longer.

Is there anything to fight with?

Nothing. Every tool you have buys time; none of them removes a threat.
